Children between the ages of 10 and 12 can participate in an upcoming Summer Shakespeare Youth Camp being put on by the Lyric Theatre.

Gordon McCall Artistic and Executive Director with the Lyric Theatre details what participants can experience.

"They get to participate in all sorts of activities related to Shakespeare. Everything from making little sculptures to learning something about the language to putting on a presentation at the end of the week for parents."

McCall adds that youth will also learn that we still use a lot of Shakespeare's words that he invented in our common speech today. That alone is a connection back to these words of more than four hundred years ago.

The camp is free of charge and will be running from August 2nd through to the 6th at the sight of the Great Southwest Shakespeare Festival in Riverside Park.

Local teachers Nancy Bridal and Shaun Spence will be instructing at the camp and McCall says they are excited to have such great teachers and provide this opportunity for young people in the community.

McCall reflects on why he wanted to launch this program.

"It's something I wanted to introduce this year and hopefully every year hereafter. To bring Shakespeare to life for young people, because later on in life they are going to have a wonderful appreciation for it and carry the word forward."

Those interested in participating in the camp are asked to contact the Lyric Theatre.
