A look outside will reveal that Swift Current is currently surrounded by storm clouds.

These come as Environment and Climate Change Canada have issued a storm watch for the city and surrounding area.

Speaking to the origins of this system is Natalie Hasell, warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada.

"We have flow from the southwest immediately where you are, but that flow is actually coming more or less from the Gulf of Mexico," revealed Hasell. "So we've got a good feed of moisture into southwestern Saskatchewan allowing these storms to develop."

With all that moisture, Swift Current and southwest Saskatchewan are sitting on the line between some cooler northern air and the warm air blowing up from the States.

This has led to a few different storms brewing in the area, and right into the Swift Current region.

"a good chunk of Saskatchewan identified for a while now for risk of thunderstorms," said Hasell. "These are mostly air mass thunderstorms, though we do have what looks like a little bit of a line of convergence sitting over southwestern Saskatchewan."

Folks are being warned to hunker down inside, away from windows in the event the storm picks up pace. Folks on the highway may need to pull over and hunker down but should do so away from an overpass.

Radar is predicting the bulk of the storm arriving around 8 p.m. or later.
