The Swift Current Lyric Theatre is fundraising towards reopening and recently received a significant gift.

Earlier this week the Innovation Federal Credit Union announced 14 charities who would be obtaining grants, including the Lyric Theatre.

The Swift Current facility was given $10,000 that they will use on ongoing repairs and upgrades that have kept the building closed to the public for the past little while.

Georgia Graham, interim general manager at the Lyric Theatre, is thankful and excited to be able to continue the necessary upgrades.

"We just received a $10,000 grant from Innovation Credit Union," said Graham. "It will go directly towards the renovations."

The projects currently being worked on at the Lyric Theatre include drywalling and making upgrades per fire regulations.

"We applied for that in early December there and we're very grateful that they found our cause worth giving some money towards," Graham said.

These grants come from Innovation reinvesting two to four per cent of pre-tax profits back to the communities they serve.

"We had contacted Innovation directly to ask about funding because we have partnered with them in the past," said Graham "They directed us to fill out information for the grant and then we went that route."

Companies can apply for these grants online through the Innovation Federal Credit Union website where they will have the opportunity to be selected.
