This year marks 50 annual Saskatchewan Summer and Winter Games, and in honour, the City of Swift Current held a flag raising this morning.

Folks gathered outside of City Hall at 10 a.m. to watch the personalized flag go up.

Museum Director, Melissa Shaw, said it will fly throughout the Winter Games all of next week, donning the city's name and year that it held the Summer Games.

"We have sent them a copy of the City of Swift Current flag, and they will be putting it with an honor guard at the VIP reception prior to opening ceremonies," she said. "And then it will fly outside the athletes' village for the duration of the Games."

Back in 1976, when the Summer Games were in Swift Current, coins were scattered around the city for folks to find and cash in for prizes. Shaw added that the museum still has the legacy coins archived and might add the flag to their collection when it comes down as well.
