Members of the Swift Current Senior Citizen's Activity Centre are asking the public for financial assistance in order to keep the facility from shutting its doors.

The space is a fun and comfortable environment that approximately 25-30 seniors enjoy, with longtime Swift Current residents able to enjoy conversation, card games and other activities.

Bernard Sorenson has lived in Swift Current since 1952, and moved to Swift Current from Cabri after working with his father in agriculture.

"The Senior's Centre is a place where older people can get together who don't do much else and tell a joke or whatever they can remember to tell! (laughs)," says Sorenson.

The longtime member estimates expenses to range between $800-$1000 per month.

"We've been getting by and once in a while through death [a late member] will leave us some money which carries us through. It has got to the point where we will have to sell the building or ask for help from the public to help keep it open for local seniors to enjoy."

Those interested in making a difference for the Senior Centre are encouraged to stop by the facility at 68 Central Ave N or give them a call at 306-773-5302.
