In a press release sent out late yesterday afternoon, the Swift Current Municipal RCMP announced that it has made the decision to close and lock its public access doors effective immediately.

It stresses that it is NOT shutting down its public services, but simply controlling access to the detachment in order to protect its employees and the public by reducing unnecessary personal contact.

A poster fixed to the front door provides instructions on how to obtain service if needed.

  • During the office hours of 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., visitors must call 306-778-4870 to speak directly with an RCMP employee.
  • If assistance can be provided over the phone, an employee or officer will do so.
  • If your request requires personal contact with an officer, an employee will meet you at the door.
  • For the safety of all, you may be asked to wear a mask while in the detachment.
  • If you believe you may be ill and you require personal assistance, inform the employee on the phone to allow the officers to be prepared ahead of time.
  • Don't be alarmed if you see employees wearing extra protection.

They also add that Fingerprinting and Criminal Record Checks will only be done in exceptional circumstances and that non-urgent fingerprinting and Criminal Record Checks will be available at later date.
