Doug Elliot, owner of QED Information Systems, presents an Economic Systems Analysis Report Card at Monday's city council meeting

The City of Swift Current received its very own report card as part of its ongoing Business Retention and Expansion Initiative.

The City is partnering with a number of local organizations, including the Swift Current and District Chamber of Commerce in the initiative, which provides a snapshot of the region's economic performance through data analysis and a survey of businesses to define economic advantages in Swift Current.

An Economic Systems Analysis was presented to the city this week, and there were some very positive points in the report.

"We have one of the highest quality of life sections in the report out of the eight cities across the province, which is really nice to see," said Darla Lindbjerg, CEO of the Swift Current Chamber of Commerce."That means we have an extremely low crime rate, great climate, and our commuting times are very good."

Swift Current also scored well for employment, housing affordability and capital accessibility, and Lindbjerg says the overall data should show businesses looking to invest in swift Current that we are serious about our business community thriving.

"We have great steps that have been made through this initiative and we will continue to make great steps moving forward in the future going forward with different projects that have been identified, and continue to be identified through this data," she added.

Lindbjerg adds the survey, which was completed earlier this year, was completed by 140 businesses. She says they are looking to define different projects within the next month or so, and meet with different committees around those projects this spring.
