Swift Current was one of many communities to suffer from fraud and stolen property operation.

Earlier this month a six-week investigation by the Medicine Hat Police Service led to the arrest of a man who illegally obtained more than $30,000 in items.

37-year-old and Medicine Hat native Charles Dale Glasier was arrested for the operation that ran throughout southern Albert and in Swift Current.

Cory Both, a staff sergeant with the community safety section with the Medicine Hat Police Service, said that it was a retail store in Medicine Hat that originally reported the operation.

"There was a retail outlet here in Medicine Hat that had caught onto a retail scam, involving barcoding manipulation via the self-checkout of their stores," he said. "Store staff caught on and reported it to our police service. Then the street crimes unit took on the investigation and managed to identify the accused person and track it back to several other retail outlets throughout southern Alberta and Swift Current."

The items recovered consisted largely of DVD box sets and action figure toys unlawfully obtained from big-box retailers.  Investigators allege that the accused obtained the items from the retailers by fraudulent means for a fraction of their retail price with the intention of selling them for profit.

Glasier is alleged to have committed numerous fraudulent transactions and has been charged with one global count of fraud over $5,000 and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
