The national spotlight will be coming to Swift Current in early February of 2019.

It was announced this morning that Swift Current will host Hockey Day in Canada on February 9, 2019.

“We are absolutely thrilled to host Hockey Day in Canada in Swift Current next February,” said Mayor Denis Perrault. “To join Ron, Don and the entire broadcast and event team paying homage to the game we love is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and a perfect way to celebrate our beloved Swift Current Broncos as they defend their WHL Championship next season.”

The event will also coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Broncos' 1989 Memorial Cup win, and include an alumni game as part of the day's events.

The Broncos will take on the Blades that night in WHL regular-season action - Swift Current beat out the Blades to hoist the Memorial Cup in 1989.

It will be the third time the day-long celebration will have a Saskatchewan stop, joining Shaunavon from 2004 and Lloydminster in 2014.

More details will be announced in the coming months.
