The Edmonton Oil Kings set a franchise record in convincing fashion Friday night, beating the visiting Swift Current Broncos 5-0.

Vince Loschiavo scored twice and added an assist, while Trey Fix-Wolanski had three helpers as Edmonton is 4-0 to start the season for the first time. (Thanks to Guy Flaming - colour commentator of the Oil Kings - for that stat.)

Boston Bilous was perfect in net, despite not being tested much, stopping 15 Bronco shots for his first-career shutout.

On the other end, Joel Hofer made 42 stops on 47 shots - many of which were high-quality chances.

Losciavo set up blueliner Ethan Cap for a one-timer blast that out Edmonton up 1-0 17:14 into the first. That goal came on the heels of a strong penalty kill by the Broncos, but they never recovered after the two minutes were up. Former Bronco defenceman Jacson Alexander rang a shot off the iron shortly before the Cap goal.

Swift was actually outshooting Edmonton 7-2 at one point, but the Andrew Fyten delay-of-game call before Cap opened the scoring seemed to change momentum.

Just 66 seconds later Brett Kemp tucked in his fourth of the season making it 2-0.

Loschiavo struck twice in the second, sandwiching a pretty first-career goal by rookie Vladimir Alistrov.

Swift Current’s powerplay went 0-2, (though the second one only lasted seven seconds as time expired in the third), while Edmonton’s was 1-5.

Faceoffs were in the Broncos’ favour 34-32. Fyten was 11 for 18, and Ethan O’Rourke won eight of 12.

Swift Current is in Red Deer tonight to take on the Rebels.

So far this season the Broncos are being outscored 15-1, and are 0-3.

Red Deer won their first game in three tries with a 4-3 home decision over the Calgary Hitmen last night.
