A former Swift Current Minor Hockey alumnus is now the head coach of the New York Islanders.

The NHL club announced this morning they'd promoted Lane Lambert to the vacant gig.

The 57-year-old has spent the last four seasons as the Islanders' associate coach and has been coaching at the NHL level since 2011.

Lambert played 283 games in the NHL between 1983 and 1989 and played for the Swift Current Broncos in the SJHL just a few years prior.
