Progress continues at the SWT Lyceum Theatre.
The non-profit cinema in Gull Lake has begun the renovations it's been fundraising for over the last year. Stage one of the project involves the construction of the new office and lobby space.
General Manager for the SWT Lyceum Theatre, Cole Girodat, is excited to see the project moving forward.
"Renovation started last Monday, and we already got a good start," said Girodat. "We're using space in the theatre that has just been used for storage, and we're using it to make our lobby bigger."
Right now, the office space and lobby area on the left hand side of the existing lobby are being drywalled and readied for more finshing work.
Afterwards, stage two will see the box office renovated and the concessions torn down and remade for an upgraded experience.
Stage three of the project will entail the washrooms and accessibility concerns at the theatre addressed with modernizations.
"[We will be] making the women's washroom a little bigger," said Girodat. "Because that's always a big concern when we have big movies."
For everyone who loves the Theatre, they will be able to enjoy the same movie-going experience. While the front end is being renovated for a more accessible and enjoyable reception, the actual theatre itself will remain the same in its viewing arrangement.
The time frame for these upgrades isn't set in stone, with no end date for the work available. Girodat is determined to see these renovations done well and to allow for the time needed to make sure everything is just right.
Anyone looking to help out with the SWT Lyceum Theatre can still donate to the renovations. Just give Girodat a call at 306-672-4240, or email them at leceumtheatresk@gmail.com.
"You can come and rent the theatre for a group," said Girodat. "Watch a movie, play a video game on our big screen, all for $50.00 an hour."
