Swift Current, Sask. – Carpet One Training Camp wrapped up for the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday night with the annual Blue v.s. White game, now known as the “Denny Ulmer Cup”.

It was Team Kennedy (White) taking this one by a 5-1 score, led by 34 saves from netminder Joey Rocha.

“Denny was actually one of the first Bronco personnel I met,” Rocha said after the game. “He picked me up from the airport in Regina and brought me to [Swift Current], so it means a lot to win it for him.”

Team Kennedy didn’t wait very long to score either as Ty Coupland scored just 40 seconds into the game giving them the lead, one they wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the way. Peyton Kettles, Rylan Gould, and Rylan Williams all scored, while Coupland notched a second goal as well.

“The guys in front of me made it easy,” Rocha said. “They kept everyone to the outside, so it just made my job so much easier. Then when they did get high chances, guys like Kettles were blocking shots so it made my job pretty simple.”

Brady Birnie broke Rocha’s shutout with just over two minutes to play in the contest.

Next up for the Broncos, are four pre-season contests before the regular season gets going on September 23. On Thursday night, the Broncos will host the Moose Jaw Warriors with puck drop at 7 p.m., admission is free with a donation to the Salvation Army food bank, or a $5 donation to the Salvation Army food bank.
