In the June 1 COVID-19 update from The Saskatchewan Health Authority there are a total of  86 new cases of the virus in the province.

Of those 86 new cases there is 1 in the Far North West zone, 1 in the Far North East zone, 4 in the North West zone, 13 in the North Central zone, 2 in the North East zone, 26 in the Saskatoon zone, 4 in the Central East zone, 11 in the Regina zone, 13 in the South Central zone, and 1 in the South East zone.

There are 7 new cases in the South West zone - 2 in the South West subzone 1, and 5 in the South West subzone 2.

There are 3 new cases with pending residence information.

Three cases with pending residence information have been assigned as follows - 2 to the North Central zone, and 1 to the North West zone.

That brings the provincial total number of cases to 46,834, of which 1,272 are considered active.

There are 41 active cases in the South West zone - 9 in the South West subzone 1, and 32 in the South West subzone 2.

The seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases is 134 (11 new cases per 100,000 population).

There are 181 recoveries reported, bringing that provincial total to 45,022.

There is 1 new death reported in the 70-79 age group from the Central East zone.

That brings the provincial total number of deaths to 540.

There are 108 people in the hospital. Eighty-five people are receiving inpatient care - 6 in the North West zone, 5 in the North Central zone, 1 in the North East zone, 33 in the Saskatoon zone, 2 in the Central East zone, 31 in the Regina zone, 3 in the South Central zone, and 2 in the South East zone.

There are 2 people receiving inpatient care in the South West zone.

There are 23 people in intensive care - 1 in the North West zone, 4 in the North Central zone, 11 in the Saskatoon zone, 1 in the Central East zone, and 6 in the Regina zone.

To date, there has been 863,005 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan.

And yesterday, there were 1,719 COVID-19 tests processed.

As of May 31 there were a total of 10,774 variants of concern cases identified by screening in the province - 244 in the Far North West zone, 46 in the Far North East zone, 610 in the North West zone, 473 in the North Central zone, 59 in the North East zone, 1,697 in the Saskatoon zone, 109 in the Central West zone, 597 in the Central East zone, 4,658 in the Regina zone, 763 in the South Central zone, and 1,077 in the South East zone.

There are a total of 375 reported in the South West zone.

There are 66 screened variants of concern cases with residence pending.

There are no new lineage results reported.

Of the 5,713 variants of concern cases with lineages identified by whole genome sequencing in the province, 5,529 are B.1.1.1.7(UK), 144 are P.1(Brazilian), 30 are B.1.617(Indian), and 10 are B.1.351(SA).

An additional 5,304 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given, bringing the total number of vaccines administered to 730,952.

Of those 5,304 vaccine doses given, there were 11 administered in the South West zone.

Seventy-seven percent of those over the age of 40, 71% of those over 30, and 66% of those over 18 have received their first vaccine dose.

Beginning June 2, second dose eligibility will be lowered to 65 and over. That is up from the projected date of June 7. Residents who received their first vaccine dose before March 22 also become eligible.

Today the National Advisory Committee on Immunization released guidance on the interchangeability of COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in Canada, meaning the potential of receiving a different type of vaccine for your second dose than you received for your first. Effective immediately, the provincial vaccination roll out plan will incorporate this guidance to ensure safe and rapid deployment of vaccines.

Persons who received a first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine may receive either the AstraZeneca vaccine or a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine for their second dose, unless contraindicated. And persons who received a first dose of Pfizer or Moderna should be offered the same vaccine for a second dose, 

AstraZeneca second dose availability begins June 7.
