As our attention turns to Remembrance Day on Saturday, how is our local Legion branch faring?

Earlier this summer, Branch #56 put up a "For Sale" sign on their hall on 1st N.E. Shrinking membership coupled with the cost of maintaining the 1967 building was taking a bite out of the Legion’s finances.

Branch President, James Pratt, says they’ve decided to take the building off the market.

Pratt also says it’s time to find fresh faces to add to the organization.

Past restrictions on becoming a member have been dropped and Pratt invites the general public to consider joining the Legion.

If you haven’t already, there’s still time to get your poppy for Saturday’s Remembrance Day.

Remembrance Day activities begin at 9:00 in the morning at the Legion, followed by a service at Memorial Park. Then at 10:30, veterans will march from Irwin School to the Comp for the general service.
