June is always a busy month in Swift Current, and while big events like Frontier Days, Windscape, Long Day’s Night and the opening of Market Square all happen later in the month, this first weekend of June is also jam-packed with sports of different kinds, another fundraising walk, and a way to try out different recreation activities in the city. 

Here’s a rundown of just a few things that are happening this weekend:

Parkway Connection 

The Chinook Parkway in Swift Current offers many recreational opportunities which will all be highlighted on Sunday. There will be a bike safety event at Riverdene Park, fitness activities at the Elmwood Fit Park, planting at the Janie & Helen Rempel Community Garden and disc golf at Riverside Park, and you can walk or bike to each of these events using the Chinook Pathway. 

When: Sunday, June 5 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm 

Cost: Free

2022 Gutsy Walk for Chron’s & Colitis 

Chron’s Disease and ulcerative colitis, collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease, affects 1 in 140 Canadians including many young people. The money raised at the Gutsy Walk goes to Chron’s and Colitis Canada to help support research into treatments and help make lives better for those living with these diseases. This is a 5km walk with shorter distances available, and refreshments will be available after the walk. 

When: Sunday, June 5 at 12:30pm. 

Where: Riverside Park 

Registration: On-site starting at 10:30am or online

Three home games for the Swift Current 57’s 

After the Swift Current 57’s opened their comeback season last weekend, they have a busy three-game homestand with two games against the Regina Red Sox on Friday and Saturday, and then they’ll wrap up the weekend with a Sunday afternoon game against the Medicine Hat Mavericks. 

When: Friday and Saturday at 7:05pm and Sunday at 2:05pm 

Where: Mitchell Field 

Cost: $12

Wolverines Lacrosse vs. Prince Albert 

The Swift Current Wolverines Jr. B Lacrosse team play their final home game of the regular season when they welcome the Prince Albert Predators on Saturday night. As with every home game, there will be a bar and concession run by Louie D’s Catering and a 50/50 draw, and fans can get their tickets for an e-bike raffle sponsored by Robertson Motorsports and Marine.  

When: Saturday, June 4 at 6:00pm 

Where: Fairview West Arena 

Cost: $5 for adults, children are free

Provincial Motocross Racing 

Swift Current will host a provincially sanctioned SMA motocross race day on Sunday featuring riders from all over Saskatchewan and some local competitors from the CMX Powersports team. 

When: Sunday, June 5 at 8:00am 

Where: Swift Current Motocross Track (entrance is located behind Graphic Edge at 1411 North Service Rd. W.)
