A prairie giant that has been standing for nearly 100 years was brought to its knees yesterday. The Thrasher grain elevator, located on Highway 4 halfway between Rosetown and Elrose was burnt down in a controlled fire on Tuesday.

The elevator was built in 1923 and was the last remaining vestige of the former Saskatchewan town Thrasher.

The elevator, once photographed by National Geographic, was lit around 8 a.m. on April 4th and took about 28 minutes for the structure to come crashing down.

The owner of the elevator decided to burn it down after failed attempts at giving it to a museum and people trespassing on the unstable structure.
