Earlier this month two businesses teamed up to help make sure that children get a Christmas present this year.

Canadian Tire and Golden West Radio hosted a Toy Drive for the Swift Current Salvation Army over two days.

Captain Ed Dean with the Swift Current Salvation Army said that the toy drive went wonderful.

"There were 278 toys that were brought in and then there were a few more that tricked in throughout the week," he said. "We have served over 300 children this Christmas with toys, which is a wonderful thing. Part of our toy drive this year was allowing families to select some of the toys for the event so they could come in and shop."

Captain Charlotte Dean with the Swift Current Salvation Army said that the toy shop that they set up was well received.

"It's huge to the parents to be able to go in and make that selection, so we definitely want to see more of this in the future," she said. "We are moving to as much dignity as possible. It's not fun to have to come in and ask for help, and being able to choose something as simple as the kind of puzzle you're going to live to your child or the kind of doll that you're going to give to your little girl, those kinds of things are huge for parents."

Both added that they hope that they can continue to offer the toy shop next year.
