An update has been provided following a Canadian Pacific (CP) Railway freight train that derailed near the community of Chaplin on Monday morning. 

In an emailed statement to Discover Moose Jaw, the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) says that the incident occurred at around 12:20 a.m. on Monday morning. In addition, 47 intermodal platforms and 95 containers were reported to have derailed.

On Monday, a team of TSB investigators was deployed to the derailment site and is currently gathering information and assessing the occurrence. 

CP Rail provided an update to Discover Moose Jaw on what they know so far. They mentioned that no dangerous goods were involved in the incident and they dispatched crews and equipment to the derailment site. 

The affected rail line was reopened overnight on Monday after completing all repairs and safety inspections.

It is not known at this time what the contents of the containers were, what caused the accident, and if anyone was injured. 

Chaplin is 83 kilometres east of Swift Current, and 86 kilometres west of Moose Jaw.
