The Swift Current Pure Chem U15 AA Broncos came up just short in their bid for a medal at the Western Canadian Crown Elite U15 tournament this past weekend.

Swift Current opened round-robin play on Thursday afternoon at the 16-team invitational in Edmonton with an 8-2 drumming of the Canadian Athletic Club.

Broncos forward Parker Rondeau netted four goals in the second period in the win.

The Broncos drew the short straw playing at 7:45 a.m. on Friday morning but wound up winning 4-3 in a shootout over the Sherwood Park Kings.

Mossbank's Chase Peterson scored twice in the victory for Swift Current with Parker Rondeau scoring the shootout winner.

The Pure Chem U15 AA Broncos continued their solid round-robin play upending the Delta Hockey Academy Black 5-2 Friday night.

Eastend's Jace Egland helped Swift Current erase a 2-0 deficit recording a hat-trick.

Swift Current continued their winning ways Saturday morning squeezing past the Lloydminster Bobcats 1-0.

Shaunavon's Mason Fauser scored the game's lone goal while Broncos goalie Berney Weston collected the shutout making 22 saves.

The win moved the U15 AA Broncos into the tournament semi-finals Saturday night against the host Northern Alberta Xtreme.

Swift Current held multiple leads in the game but eventually fell 4-3 in a shootout.

Parker Rondeau, Jace Egland, and Wesely Olson all scored goals and netminder Berney Weston stopped 56 shots in the loss.

"Berney is a big game goalie," Broncos head coach Regan Darby said. "He showed up tonight and gave us a chance to win this hockey game."

Playing for bronze on Sunday afternoon, Swift Current ran out of gas versus the Pacific Coast Hockey Academy dropping the game 3-0.

"We didn't know what to expect coming in [to the tournament], we knew there was some good heavy teams," he said. "Our guys really stepped up to the plate and I'm proud of them... Proud of the way they played, the way they showed up, and the way they competed."

Swift Current will return to league play Saturday night at Fairview West Arena hosting the Regina Pat Blues.
