The AAA Innovation Credit Union Wildcats started their season off strong, taking a pair of wins on the road in Battleford.

A low-scoring game one would see Laiken Swan put the Wildcats on the board early in the second period on a feed from Jerzey Watteyne. That's where the score would remain until 30 seconds left in regulation when Watteyne would add the unassisted empty netter to secure the 2-0 victory.

Both teams would get into penalty trouble early, with both going 0-5 on their respective power play opportunities.

Game two on Sunday would look a lot different, as Watteyne would beat Sharks goalie Taylor Enns midway through the first frame on a tape-to-tape pass from Kiana McNinch. McNinch would follow that up a few minutes later with an unassisted shorthanded marker to put the Wildcats up 2-0 heading into the second frame.

Swift Current would add a second power-play marker and a second shorthander; this time courtesy of Jerzey Wateyne's second of the afternoon.

The Sharks would finally get on the board late in the second frame as Mykayla Pylypow would solve Karlee Lehner for the first time.

Swift Current would add one more late in the third to underline the 5-1 win.

Wateyne would end the weekend with 4 points, enough to give her a tie for third on the season's scoring leaderboard.

The Wildcats head home next as they'll host the Regina Rebels on October 20, 2021, at Fairview.
