Fluctuating temperatures so far this Winter have caused dangerous conditions on the Swift Current Creek.

Swift Current Fire Chief Denis Pilon is advising residents to be careful around the creek, as it is rising and flowing quickly. He says due to the recent warm temperatures, melting has occured and water is flowing over the ice and some of the ice has lifted off the bottom and is breaking up.

Even with another cold snap on the way, Chief Pilon says the creek will still be unsafe.

"I'm sure we will see some freezing again, but still, there's water flow under the ice and around the ice," he said. "Even if it does freeze over top, it's going to be very weak and not safe to go on."

Chief Pilon says residents should not go on the ice and should be careful around the creek.

"Stay off the ice, stay off the creek and be careful even walking around the creek because the shores going into the creek, the creek banks are actually very slippery and it would be very easy to slide down into the creek into the water," he added.
