The official Grand Opening of the new washroom facilities at Memorial Park in Shaunavon took place yesterday May 25.

Shaunavon Mayor, Kyle Bennett, along with Cypress Hills MLA, Doug Steele, were both on hand to cut the ribbon to unveil the new facilities.

Mayor Bennett talked about the provincial funding that helped see the project done, saying "We are extremely grateful for the support from the Province of Saskatchewan in providing funding from the Municipal Economic Enhancement Program. This project cost a total of $113,813.52, where $71,405.00 was MEEP funded, and the remaining $42,408.52 was funded by The Town of Shaunavon."

MLA Doug Steele talked about the how provincial tax dollars are helping communities. "Well, it's nice to see tax dollars come back to our local communities, and the local communities that are prepared and ready to take advantage of programming that comes out. It's important to build for the future."

The washroom upgrades began in the fall of 2021 and continued throughout the off-season in order to be completed  by this spring and ready for campers and park visitors.

The renovations will create a more appealing, sanitary and pleasant experience for Memorial Park visitors and Shawnee campers.
