Swift Current’s attempt to sign a rescue services agreement with outlying rural municipalities has hit a snag.

Yesterday at City Hall, Council considered withholding emergency services to our internal neighbor, the RM of Swift Current.

The RM has, so far, refused to sign the document that addresses liability issues and associated costs for sending city emergency services.

As it stands, six out of the seven RM’s in the Southwest have signed with the city.

Council has agreed to defer any decision on the matter until August 29th . Mayor Sandy Larson hopes to meet further with Public Safety Minister Kevin Yates and Jim Parsons, Reeve for the RM of Swift Current.

Mr. Parsons has, so far, declined to comment on the matter.
