The Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre, currently under construction in Shaunavon

Shaunavon's new Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre will have almost 70% of its energy supplied by a wind turbine, thanks to SaskPower.

Shaunavon was one of four communities in the province chosen to receive a turbine as part of a demonstration project to test the province's potential for wind power.

Shaunavon Mayor Sharon Dickie says it's exciting news for the town.

The other three communities listed as part of the project are Eatonia, Strasbourg and Central Butte.

Mayor Dickie says the turbine will be located in the Shaunavon Industrial Park, and will be up by the end of July. In the meantime, work continues on the new facility, leading up to Shaunavon Graduation Ceremonies at the end of June, and the official grand opening in mid-July.
