A smokey haze has settled over the city of Swift Current as well as South West Saskatchewan this morning, as wildfires continue to burn south of the boarder.

Terry Laing, Meteorologist for Environment Canada explains the where the smoke is coming from.

"There are fires that are going on in Washington state, as well as a number of them also burning in Montana. It appears that the one in Montana is the one producing the most smoke. Because there is a south west wind at higher levels of the atmosphere, it is bringing the smoke right over top of South West Saskatchewan," she said.

Laing also gave an update on when Swift Current residents can expect to see the smoke begin to disappear.

"Our computer models, that model how the smoke will disperse or move, are showing it probably remaining over the Swift Current area for the bulk of the day and then slowly clearing overnight at a front starts settling through. We should see the smoke start to disperse probably tomorrow morning," she said.

Anyone with Asthma or any other health condition is reminded to take precautions when smoke is in the area.
