construction sign

It's a tragic reminder to motorists to always slow down and be aware in construction zones.

An 18-year-old woman was killed after being struck by an SUV on Highway 39 near Midale Friday afternoon. The victim was working as a flag person for a construction company and was on duty at the time. She has been identified as Ashley Richards of Lakeside, New Brunswick, which is in the Saint John area.

A 44-year-old man driving the vehicle was arrested at the scene and was released the next day. Charges against him are pending.

RCMP and the Provincial Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure are both urging drivers to slow down to 60 kilometres per hour when passing highway workers in construction areas, and obey all signage and instructions.
