Radiothon for Healthcare raises $123,440
The people of southwest Saskatchewan showed their generosity again this year in supporting the Radiothon for Healthcare. After two days on the air, the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation raised $123,440 towards critical equipment for the Cypress Regional Hospital. "We can't thank the donors, the sponsors, the supporters enough for contributing to two awesome days of our radiothon," said Kris Johnson, executive director of the foundation. The total fell shy of the foundation's $150,000 goal to purchase all the needed equipment. There is still time to get donations in over the next two weeks on their website to get closer to that needed total. "I think Swift Current and southwest Saskatchewan will come forward for us," Johnson said. "We'll be able to reach that goal and purchase the equipment for the women's and children's unit." The foundation hopes to purchase an incubator and a bili light, a wireless fetal monitor, a blanket warmer, and three sleeper chairs. "If you drive by the hospital on your way home from work today, it's a parking lot full of vehicles," said Scott Anderson, development and major fifts coordinator at the foundation. "That facility is busy 24/7. Just not losing sight of the importance of this year's campaign, the equipment, and when we turn the page tomorrow, there is still an ongoing need." Since its inception in 2008, the radiothon has raised about $3.073 million for health care in the southwest. Last year, proceeds funded a stress test console and three defibrillators, while they purchased a thulium fibre laser system in 2023.
