City, Broncos reach new five-year facility and suite agreements
The City of Swift Current and the Swift Current Broncos have finalized new agreements for private suite rentals and facility use at the InnovationPlex. City council approved the pair of five-year contracts Monday night, which include annual fee increases for the Western Hockey League club. The new deal runs through the 2029-30 season. Under the agreement, the Broncos will see a four per cent yearly increase to game and practice fees, while training camp fees will rise by five per cent each year. “The development of these new agreements follows a series of collaborative discussions between city administration, Broncos staff and board members, and legal counsel for both the city and Broncos,” said Nicole Spenst, the city’s general manager of community services. Ice rental fees for regular season and exhibition games will sit at $2,442 for the 2025-26 campaign and rise to $2,855 by 2029-30. Games held on statutory holidays will carry an additional charge of $713 in 2025-26, increasing to $832 by the end of the term. Training camp fees will cost the team $5,002 this year, climbing to $6,079 for the 2029-30 season. The agreements replace the former Partnership in Prosperity deal, which expired Sept. 1, 2025. General liability insurance requirements will increase to $5 million, and tenant insurance is now mandatory. The suite agreement outlines usage terms including occupancy, ticketing, maintenance and access requirements. The facility usage agreement covers scheduling, utilities, storage space, marketing arrangements, and cleaning and maintenance standards. “The new agreement structure reinforces the city’s commitment to maintaining a transparent, effective and mutually beneficial relationship with the Broncos,” Spenst said. “It ensures accountability while supporting the Broncos’ mission to promote hockey development in the community.”
