The Swift Current Lions Club are heavily involved annually in a number of sponorships, activities, bursaries, scholarships, and support work in our community.
For 71 years in fact The Lion's Club in Swift Current has been involved in a variety of worthwhile initiatives, including; Swift Current Music Festival Sponsorships, Annual Scholarships for students at The Comp, and Great Plains College, donations to organizations like Dorie's House, The Summer Park Program, Cancer Relay for Life, and many more. Additionally they spearhead programs including; the Lions Guide Dog Program, the Saskatchewan Lions Diabetes Cavalcade, and the Saskatchewan Lions Eyebank Program. The latter having collected over 17,000 pairs of used eye glasses and hearing aids in the last few years for redistribution to those in need.
The Lions Club is truly an organization of our community, for our community!
They recently hosted "An Evening of Live Music" featuring Rob Hudec and his sister Jacqueline, two very talented local musicians who never fail to entertain. Rob and Jacqueline donated the lion's share of their normal performance fees for the evening and Joe Regeir of the Lions helped to coordinate collection of items used for the Silent Auction that night.
Through their passion, talent, hard work, and dedication, the evening raised $4000.00 to be used toward funding the Lions Club's activities in Swift Current and Southwest Saskatchewan!
In recognition of their efforts it is our pleasure to award them this week's Eagle Applause and the gift certificate from Schultz's Ranch Country Meats in Morse.
Rob now calls Medicine Hat home and came in for the evening of music, Joe and Jacqueline came by the Eagle studios to accept the Eagle Applause on behalf of themselves and Rob.
Congratulations to all 3 and thank you for all you do!
