The South West Saskatchewan Roller Derby had a strong showing in their first bouts of the season in Medicine Hat on the weekend.

Rhett Ro from the Betties has this to say about the matches,

"The Veronicas put out a really strong showing we actually had 3 of our junior players from the The Ra Ra Riots playing with the team and 2 brand new players.  They were ahead in points for most of the game, but they actually came up 4 short at the end of the game to lose 177 - 173."

The Betties took on The Dirty South and Rhett Ro says it was great to see players from both teams keeping up.

"The Betties had a great game we looked really strong and we had players playing for both the Betties and Vernonicas," said Rhett Ro.  "The fact that they could play two games and come out and be as strong as they were was really impressive.  We ended up coming out on top of that game 199 - 111.  It was a great showing for our whole league this weekend."

The league is gearing up this week for their first home bout and Rhett Ro mentions their teams have the best fans here in Swift Current.

"We are super excited, there is nothing like a home crowd.  We probably actually had more fans in Medicine Hat than they, so we have a very strong fan base and we love playing at home," said Rhett Ro.

The junior team The Ra Ra Riots are kicking things off at 4pm at the iPLEX this Saturday with the Betties taking on the Nor-Sask at 7pm.

Tickets for the bouts this weekend are available at Pharmasave or online at www.swsrda.ca.
