It's been a regular season of resiliency for the Swift Current 57's in a quest for a three-peat as WMBL champions.

The 57's overcame a 1-5 start to the season, at one point dropping to 3-8.

Swift bounced back and strung together a four game-win streak to get back to 7-8, finally reaching the .500 mark when they moved to 10-10 on June 25 with a win over the Edmonton Prospects.

After a bumpy stretch dropped their record to 14-17 and flirting with the outskirts of the Eastern Division's playoff picture, that's when fortunes started to favour the bold for Swift Current.

The 57's won a season-best nine games in a row to shoot up the standings, before a bid for a tenth-straight was disrupted by the Okotoks Dawgs on July 20.

Swift Current finished the last seven games of the regular season with a 5-2 record to sit in second place in the East with a 28-20 record.

Shifting to the post-season picture, the 57's await a 2018 WMBL first-round playoff series with a fellow playoff perennial powerhouse.

The Eastern Division's second-seeded 57's carry home-field advantage into their opening-round tilt with the #3-seed Regina Red Sox (26-21).

Both teams have held a spot in the playoffs since at least the 2010 season, when stats were first recorded on the WMBL website.

The Red Sox handily took the regular-season series between the two clubs, winning five of six match-ups, and out-scoring the 57's 52-28:

June 3 - 18-8 (L)
June 10 - 5-4 (L)
June 26 - 11-3 (L)
July 4 - 9-0 (L)
July 12 - 9-0 (W)
July 23 - 9-4 (L)

But, the gritty 57's squad is not one to shy away from adversity.

"We'll be alright, we've got a bunch of guys that love playing the game, and love competing. Throughout this year they've showed that no matter what the score is, they're never out of it," said head coach Joe Carnahan. "They (The Red Sox) are a good club, they've played well against us. We'll give them what we've got."

A much-younger 57's squad is set to hit Mitchell Field tomorrow when compared to that of the veteran roster that repeated as WMBL champions last August.

Two players find themselves back on the roster again and in the 2018 playoff picture - outfielders Nick Canas and Blake Adams.

"It's just fun, since we were there last year, we're able to bring our experiences and tell stories from what happened last year," said Adams, who was named the WMBL Rookie of the Year and a league all-star last season.

"It gets all the young guys excited and ready to do it again."

The heavy-hitting Texan said being that steadying veteran presence is a role he's enjoyed embracing.

"I'm just making sure that everybody stays calm and they realize that it's just another baseball game," said Adams. "(If we) play the game the way that we know how to play the game, we're going to come out on top."

After arriving late to the team in 2018, Adams has enjoyed a solid season so far.

Over 30 regular-season contests, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound outfielder has a .287 average, seven doubles, six homers, 18 RBI, 13 stolen bases, and 11 walks.

"On the field it's just easy every day being able to go out and make plays," Adams said. "At the plate, I feel good. Guys are pitching me a little different than last year, but just got to adjust and be ready to go."

After notching two wins in a three-game set against the lowly Yorkton Cardinals to end the regular season, Adams and the 57's get a Monday off to get their sights set on their opponent from the provincial capital.

"It helps that we have an off-day to be able to reset and be ready to go."

First pitch between the 57's and Red Sox is Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. from Mitchell Field.

The full first-round schedule for the two teams will see Game 5 - if necessary - on Saturday:

Game 2 - Aug 1 @ 7:05 p.m. in Swift Current
Game 3 - Aug 2 @ 7:05 p.m. in Regina
Game 4 - Aug 3 @ 7:05 p.m. in Regina (if necessary)
Game 5 - Aug 4 @ 7:05 p.m. in Swift Current (if necessary)
