The Swift Current 57's have propelled themselves back into first place in the WMBL's East Division.

Swift Current used both an offensive explosion and strong pitching Wednesday night at Mitchell Field to lock down a lopsided 14-1 victory over the Yorkton Cardinals.

"It was a really good team win," said Head Coach Joe Carnahan. "Defensively, we played well. Dustin (Wells) did what he has been doing all summer, coming in throwing strikes with three pitches. Offensively we were able to hit a few balls out of the park, and even some outs today were loud outs, so we swung the bats really well."

Dustin Wells go the start on the mound for Swift Current and has continued his impressive streak since making his way to the WMBL last month.

The Glendale, Arizona native picked up the win on the mound after going eight innings, allowing just one run on eight hits.

With the win, Wells has secured the victory in all five of his starts this season, while posting a dazzling 1.02 ERA.

"I'm feeling really good right now," Wells said. "They were an aggressive bunch so I just wanted to stick with the gameplan and attack with my aggressiveness."

At the plate, to no surprise, it was Blake Adams once again helping to lead the way for Swift Current.

As he has all season long, Adams continued to drive in runs for the 57's, hitting two home-runs on Wednesday and picking up four RBI.

The Tarleton State University junior has now has 10 home-runs and 46 RBI, while hitting .349 this season.

With his 46 RBI, Adams tied the franchise record for most RBI in a season, while his 10 home-runs sit just one shy of tying the franchise record.

"I just feel really confident, honestly," Adams said. "Everything that is being thrown looks like it's hittable. It's nice to get a bunch of barrels on the ball."

Closely behind Adams in the home-run category, Meadow Lake's Brett Esau hit his 9th big fly of the season for Swift Current on Wednesday.

Thomas DeBonville, Matt Bondarchuk, Bodie Cooper, John Baiada and Nick Canas all picked up at least one RBI in the win over Yorkton.

"We're at the point in the season now where you have to get some momentum generated towards playoffs," Carnahan said. "We have to have good, quality at-bats and pushing runs across."

Leading the Weyburn Beavers by half a game for first place in the East, the 57's will return to Mitchell Field on Thursday for their final meeting of the season with Yorkton.

First pitch is at 7:05pm.
