It certainly was not the kind of day the Swift Current 57's were hoping for on Wednesday.
Off to Yorkton for a double-header with the Cardinals, Swift Current returned home empty handed losing both games.
In each contest the 57's were able to jump out to early leads.
Playing the front-half of the two game set Swift Current used a Blake Adams sacrifice fly in the 1st inning and a Bodie Cooper two-run home-run in the 2nd to go up 3-1.
However, 57's ace Bobby St. Pierre was unable to find a shut down inning early on.
Yorkton responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-3 lead.
A Matt Bondarchuk single tied the game in the top of the 4th, but Yorkton would scratch across the game winning run in the bottom of 5th for a 5-4 victory in seven innings.
Looking to respond in the second of the two games, Swift Current was once again off and running early.
A passed ball, Keil Krumwiede single and an E6 resulted in three runs for the 57's in the top of the 2nd for a 3-0 lead, but it quickly turned into a three run deficit.
After getting through a relatively quick 1st inning, Swift Current pitcher Garrett Goodall was only able to record two outs in the bottom of the 2nd.
Yorkton used seven base-hits in the inning to cash-in six runs and take the lead.
The 57's responded with one run in the 3rd inning and two more in the 5th, but ultimately fell 8-6.
Despite the two losses, Bodie Cooper had a strong night at the plate for Swift Current going 5-7 with a home-run and a double, tallying four RBI.
The 57's now sit at 10-5 on the season, tied with Regina for top spot in the WMBL's East Division.
Swift Current will return home Thursday night to host the Weyburn Beavers.
First pitch is at 7:05pm from Mitchell Field.
