Whether it was a stolen base, a sacrifice bunt, a sacrifice fly, or just playing sound defensively, the Swift Current 57's did all the little things right Friday night in front of 456 fans at Mitchell Field.

The 57's stole three bases, tallied four RBI without a hit and did not record an error in the field as they defeated the Yorkton Cardinals 6-1.

"We executed a lot better on offence tonight," Carnahan said. "We drove in a couple runs by stealing bases, sacrifice fly's, moving guys over and that type of stuff, and those are things we are going to have to keep doing."

Playing in their first WMBL game since Monday, Swift Current had plenty of time to work on making adjustments and making the most of their opportunities.

"We just went up to the plate not trying to do to much," Carnahan said. "Guys are starting to cut down their swings a little bit, knowing what to do and the task at hand. It was good to see."

The 57's knocked in over half of their runs Friday night without the use of a hit.

With a runner on third and less than two-out, Bodie Cooper, Matt Bondarchuk and Blake Adams all hit sacrifice fly's, while newcomer Grant Van Scoy picked up his first RBI with Swift Current scoring Mason Brown from third base on a 5-3 groundout.

"We have a lot of guys that aren't selfish," said 57's outfielder Nick Canas. "Everyone is willing to take the sacrifice fly to score a run, and that is really what is going to help us get wins in the long-run."

Canas essentially embodied Swift Current's offence on Friday night.

The San Antonio, Texas product went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, one of which helped set up Cooper's sacrifice fly.

"I'm feeling good," Canas said about his at-bats. "I started the season off kind-of slow, but I am beginning to find the barrel now. I'm just glad I can do some things to help the team win."

The 57's were able to get on the board early in the contest.

An Adams RBI double in the top of the 1st scored Bondarchuk from second base to get Swift Current out in front.

The 57's then added to their lead in the bottom of the 4th.

After the first two batters reached base safely for Swift Current, Bodie Cooper put down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move both runners up.

Ben Andrews followed with an RBI single and Van Scoy then extended the lead to 3-0 on his 5-3 RBI groundout.

As it normally would be, three runs, much less six, proved to be plenty of support for 57's starting pitcher Bobby St. Pierre.

After some early command problems, St. Pierre was able to settle in and wind-up turning in a quality start of seven innings giving up only one run on five hits and two walks.

"There is always room for improvement, but I am pretty happy with tonight," St. Pierre said. "There are always minor details that can be fixed and that is stuff to keep working on, but in the end we got the win."

With his performance, the senior from Wayne State College lowered his season ERA to 2.25 and improved his record to 2-1.

Leading the game 4-1 in the bottom of the 7th, the 57's would go on to put the game out of reach.

Bondarchuk's sacrifice fly extended the lead to 5-1, before Adams tallied his second RBI of the game, scoring Riley Campbell from third on a sacrifice fly.

Layne Downing entered the game for Swift Current and pitched a clean inning, while picking up a pair of strike-outs.

Trey Taylor then came on in the 9th to lock down the 57's victory.

With the victory, Swift Current improved to 7-3 on the season, but still remain a full game back of Regina for top spot in the East Division after the Red Sox beat Weyburn 6-5 in 11 innings.

"We are off to a great start," Canas said. "I know with all of the talent on this team we can keep it rolling and keep winning."
