The Swift Current 57's went from a three game losing streak to a two game winning streak in just over 24 hours.

Having suffered their third straight loss at 9:55pm on Tuesday, by 10:47pm on Wednesday the 57's had put those losses behind them with two straight wins over Medicine Hat.

Hosting the Mavericks for a double-header, Swift Current came out victorious in both games winning 4-1 and 8-4.

"We know everyday the guys are going to come to work," 57's Assistant Coach Eric Dorton said after the two-game sweep. "Things clicked for us. We executed when we needed to execute. We had two-out knocks, which were huge. We have been leaving a lot of base-runners on lately, so with those two-out knocks we were able to push some runs across. It was a big day for us."

Throughout the first of the two games Wednesday night it seemed Swift Current was continuing to struggle with finding the key hit.

The 57's went 0-5 with runners in scoring position in the first two innings, but then had their break-through in the 4th.

RBI singles from Riley Campbell and Cole Thibodeau gave Swift Current a 2-1 lead after 4 innings complete, and supplied all the offence the pitching staff needed in game one.

Getting the start, Garrett Goodall went five strong innings, allowing just one run on three hits and two walks, while striking out three.

It was a performance that would later be matched by 57's pitcher Dustin Wells in the second game.

A Grant Van Scoy sacrifice fly and a Matt Bondarchuk single increased Swift Current's lead to 4-1, while Sean Chandler and Aidan Goodall combined to throw the final two innings and lock down the win.

It was the first time this season that saw the brother duo of Garrett and Aidan Goodall pick up the win and the save in the same game.

With one win already in the pockets, Swift Current moved on to game two where they managed to get everything rolling.

Making his first career start as a member of the 57's Dustin Wells fired five innings of one run ball.

The Glendale, Arizona native gave up just four hits and a walk, and struck out four.

"I felt good," Wells said of his performance. "I was a little inaccurate to start off just shaking off the cobwebs. Once I settle in though, I felt great. I was throwing strikes and that's all I can ask for."

"Awesome," Dorton said to describe Swift Current's two starting pitchers. "They did an awesome job. They filled up the zone, didn't walk guys and got ground balls. When those two are in the zone and competing like they always do, they're fun to watch."

Not only was the starting pitching strong for the second straight contest, the Swift Current bats came through in a big way.

The 57's went 4 for 9 with runners in scoring position in the second game, including 4 for 6 with runners in scoring position and two-out.

"It was really big for us," Bondarchuk said. "We were struggling with the hitting a little bit, but we were able to go off on the hitting tonight. It felt good."

The Swift Current centre fielder finished game two a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with two RBI and a stolen base.

Swift Current cashed six runs in during the first four innings to quickly take control, which included Bodie Cooper hitting his 4th home-run of the season.

"We knew it was going to happen at some point," Dorton said regarding finding the key hit. "The guys are always working and they're always here ready to go, but it is nice when you go through a little funk, to get a couple hits. It puts you right back at it, and you could feel the energy shift a little bit."

With the two wins, Swift Current quickly jumped back into second place in the East Division, two games back of Regina, who Swift Current will play on Thursday and Friday.

"It was big for us to get back on track," Dorton said. "We have a tough stretch against good teams with Regina the next two days and Okotoks the two days after that. Those are both good teams, so we needed to play well before heading that way."
