The Swift Current 57s dropped a second bid to reach the .500 mark this week.

The 57s lost 8-2 to the league-leading Weyburn Beavers (14-2) last night at Mitchell Field, dropping their record to 8-10 on the season.

Swift Current has yet to reach the .500 mark on the year. They had their first opportunity of the season on Tuesday in Yorkton, but fell 8-6 to the Cardinals.

Meanwhile last night's contest was an error-filled ball game. Four 57s blunders allowed the Beavers to plate eight batters on eight hits.

Starter Zach Bravo was pegged with the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) on just three hits, while walking two batters and striking out four over five innings.

Reliever Aaron Pugh had the lone clean performance out of the bullpen for the 57s, pitching a hitless eighth inning and striking out one Beavers batter.

Swift Current was a little cooler at the plate than previous games, scrounging up just five hits.

The big hit of those five was third baseman Jerad Dokey, who ripped a solo homer in the fifth inning - the big fly was his first of the season.

An indication of just how compact this 48-game regular season really is, the 57s now are on their lone two-day break of the 2018 summer season.

Swift Current resumes action Sunday on the road against the Brooks Bombers.
