For the third time in five home games this season the Swift Current 57s lost by just one run.

First it was a 4-3 loss to Weyburn to open the season, then another 4-3 loss last Wednesday to Moose Jaw. This time the 57s fell 5-4 to the visiting Regina Red Sox Sunday afternoon at Mitchell Field.

The 57s took the early lead in the back-and-forth battle, as Bryan Benz ripped a line-drive solo home run in the bottom of the first inning.

After Regina scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning, the 57s answered right back in the home half with a trio to take the 4-2 lead.

Runs came courtesy of a Jered Binsfield triple which plated Ethan Hunter, and a towering Bo McClintock homer to bring home Binsfield the next at-bat.

However, three Red Sox runs in the top of the sixth were the difference in the game as the visiting side snuck out the win.

Benz finished off his blistering day by going 4-for-5 - a triple meant the designated hitter fell just a double short of the cycle.

Swift out-hit Regina 13-10 in the loss.

On the mound for the 57s, Garrett Hawkins got the start and lasted 5-1/3 innings, giving up four runs on six hits.

Reliever Joey Machado was charged with the loss, giving up a run on four hits over 2-2/3 innings.

The 57s drop to 3-6 on the season with the loss, and now host the second of six home games in seven days.

Swift Current welcomes Fort McMurray to Mitchell Field tonight for a 7:05 p.m. start.
