Strong pitching, big bats, and error-free defense proved to be a pretty comfortable formula for a fourth-straight win for the Swift Current 57s.

The 57s defeated the Yorkton Cardinals 12-1 last night in Yorkton, with all aspects of the game seeming to click.

Starter Tommy Steier pitched a five-inning gem for Swift Current, giving up five hits and the lone run, while striking out seven Cardinals.

Reliever Brock Gilliam came on in relief of Steier, cruising through three innings of no-hit ball - he K'd up two batters.

Cade Burdett pitched a scoreless night in yet another steady 57s pitching performance out of the bullpen.

On the offensive side of things, Swift had more extra base hits than the Cardinals had hits in the game, as two homers and five doubles accounted for seven of the 57s 12 hits - the Cardinals of course managed just those five hits off Steier.

Alex Orenczuk blasted his second home run of the season, and added two of those doubles to go 3-of-5 at the plate with four RBI.

It was also the second homer of the season for catcher Ben Komonosky, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI.

The two-RBI trend continued for leadoff man Myles Miller, one of the newest 57s, whose 2-for-5 night held his average at an even .400 over ten plate appearances this season.

Defensively, it was also just the third error-free game out of 15 opportunities for the 57s this season.

The other two clean contests came in back-to-back games - the first was in a 6-1 win over this same Cardinals team on June 8, and the second a 5-4 loss to the Regina Red Sox on June 10.

Looking for their fifth-consecutive win, and a shot at reaching the .500 mark for the first time this season, the 57s (7-8) wrap up their brief two-game set in eastern Saskatchewan tonight against the Cardinals (3-10)

First pitch is 7:05 p.m. from Jubilee Park in Yorkton.
