The Swift Current 57's have a new leader in RBI's during a regular season.

57's outfielder Blake Adams ripped a two-run double in the bottom of the 5th of Thursday night's 8-3 win over the Yorkton Cardinals to cement himself as the franchise's all-time leader for RBI's in a season.

The double secured Adams his 47th and 48th RBI's of the season, breaking Eros Modena's previous mark of 46 set in 2014.

"It's really cool," Adams said after setting the record. "I know Swift (Current) has had a really good team for a long time, they have more championships than anybody, so it's nice to have my name up there, but most importantly help out this team."

Help out the team is exactly what Adams did Thursday night.

His two-RBI double came with the 57's trailing Yorkton 2-1, taking Swift Current from down one run to up one run.

"I'm just trying to stay calm at the plate," Adams said. "I know though, that the guys behind me will get the job done if I don't, so that takes the pressure off and you can just go up and have fun."

"It's just his daily approach," 57's Head Coach Joe Carnahan said regarding Adams' success. "Every single day you know that you are getting the same Blake Adams. When he's in the dugout, before he is going up to bat, before going out to play defence, during batting practice, everything, it's just his daily approach and how he gets prepared for a game. It's something the younger guys and everybody can pick up on because it obviously shows how much it works for him. He's doing a great job for us."

Following Adams' record breaking hit, the 57's would go on to add two more runs to the scoreboard before the bottom of the 5th ended.

Meadow Lake's Brett Esau hit his tenth home-run of the season, tying him with Adams for the team lead, and just one back of Nik Gumeson's record of 11 (2009).

On the mound, Bobby St. Pierre delivered another strong performance going six innings, allowing just two unearned runs on three hits.

"Bobby (St. Pierre) did a great job on the mound," said Carnahan. "He commanded all three of his pitches and his velocity is back to normal. He really set the tone for us."

The victory moved St. Pierre to 5-4 on the season, while dropping his ERA to 2.75.

"When we are running on all cylinders, it's fun to watch," said 57's reliever Trey Taylor who worked a clean 9th inning on Thursday. "Our starters always compete for us, and when they need us to, our bullpen is often there to pick them up. Offensively, they are always keeping us in games as well."

With the win, Swift Current enters Friday leading the Regina Red Sox by one game for top spot in the WMBL's East Division, while also sitting a game and a half up on Weyburn.

Friday's schedule could go a long way in determining the final standings in the East.

Swift Current will be off to the provincial capital for a double-header with the Red Sox.

The two teams will play a pair of seven inning games.

Should everything break the 57's way on Friday (Swift Current defeats Regina both games and Yorkton defeats Weyburn), Swift Current would clinch first place in the division.

"We just have to focus on game one," said Carnahan. "Stick with our plan, stick with our approach and then once that's over, we will focus on game two."

The first of Friday's two games between the 57's and Red Sox will get underway at 6:05pm.
