Chinook Golf

The Chinook Golf Course is ready for another season of golf, with all 18 greens opening yesterday.

The Chinook course is well known for its fairways and scenic views as the course winds its way along the Swift Current creek.

Golf Course Pro Ken Koster says lately golf has become more of a sport for everyone.

"One thing about golf now-a-days, it has certainly, over the last number of years become much more of a social sport as opposed to a competitive sport. It is a way for people to get out with their friends, have a few laughs, get some fresh air and a little bit of competition, but for the most part a lot of people are out there for the social aspect and to get out with friends and family," he said.

Tarps came off of the first nine last Friday, and with rain and snow forecast for Tuesday, workers worked hard on Monday to get all tarps off the back nine.

Koster added that the beginning of the golf season is always the hardest to predict.

"It's usually make or break with the first three months of the year. We'll see if we can get off to an early start, April, May and June with good weather and not as much rain that pretty much makes the season because the summer takes care of itself and the fall takes care of itself. If we can have a nice warm and relatively dry spring that does amazing things for the golf course," he said.

Saskatchewan is said to have more golf courses per capita than anywhere in the world.
