Colts Football Vanier 2

With baseball season now in the rear view mirror, football is just around the corner.

For the Swift Current Colts, it will be a busy couple of days as they get set to hit the field for their first practice tomorrow.

Head coach of the Colts, Derek Murdoch says it all starts today.

"We are excited to get things fired up with Colts Football. We have our equipment hand-out Thursday (today) afternoon at 3:45pm at the school, we are not allowed to practice until Friday so we will get rid of some of the gear and get the guys ready to go with lockers and all that stuff so that we can hit the field Friday afternoon at 3:45pm for our first practice. There are lots of things to take care of before the guys get on the field, so we'll start that on Thursday," he said.

Following tomorrow's practice, the Colts will practice twice on Saturday, before regular daily practices begin on Monday.

Looking forward to this season, Murdoch hopes last year's season can serve as a stepping stone for this year's team.

"I think we want to try and build off of the momentum that we built up last year. For our program last year was a pretty big season, in terms of finishing 3rd in the 7 team league, hosting a playoff game, and having a pretty successful Thursday night lights game. Also, we've got a pretty veteran team, which is something we haven't had for a few years," he added.

Swift Current will play their home opener Thursday, September 3rd at 4pm.
