The powerhouse Swift Current Comp Ardens soccer team is in the midst of their tryouts for this season.

Coach Dale Perry knows their grade nine class is going to inject some competitiveness into the camp.

"Usually every year we have 2 or 3 quality grade 9s coming in," Perry said. "This year there will be quite a number; 5, 6, 7 kids challenging for starting positions. That's how strong the young group is."

Perry expects the desire of those young players to make an immediate impact.

"The new players coming in are already quality players," Perry said. "They've been always at the top of the group when they played club. Now they're going to be at the bottom. I foresee them working very hard."

Perry coached their rookies on the U14 Swift Current club team. It was a way for him to get a read for the incoming high school players and to prepare for them for the Ardens.

There are 15 players eligible to return from last year's championship side. The Ardens have won three consecutive Moose Jaw league titles.

Tryouts started Monday and continue at Irwin School field tonight at 6:15pm.
