After a Provincial bronze medal last year, there was certainly a silver lining to losing the last game of this season for the Swift Current Comp Ardens soccer team.

The Ardens were in Estevan over the weekend for SHSAA 3A Girls Provincial Soccer Championships.

Swift opened in the quarter-final against the host Estevan Elecs and easily moved on to the semi-final with an 8-0 win, as seven different Ardens players scored.

Captain Lauryn Hayes led the way offensively for the Ardens with two goals and one assist, while rookie fullback Kaitlyn Berggren added a goal and an assist for her own multi-point effort.

Ali Vance, Taylor Kohls, Jodi Jacklin, Jaden McKenzie, and Aspen Thomson also scored.

Helpers came from Jessica Warren, Jannae Carlson, Cassie Barber, and Calli Moreau-Simpson in the game. McKenzie and Juliana Whalen combined for the shutout in goal.

In the semi-final against a much tougher Saskatoon Centennial Collegiate, the Ardens still came away with a 3-1 victory on two goals from Hayes once again.

Barber added the other Swift goal, while assists came from Vance and Carlson.

Once again, McKenzie earned the win in net.

However, waiting for the Ardens in the final was the Saskatoon St. Joseph Guardians - a dominant opponent who showed that in the Provincial final.

The Guardians were held scoreless through most of the first half but still ended up handing the Ardens a 5-0 loss, and a Provincial silver medal in the process.

The medal was the fourth in six years for the Swift Current Comp Ardens soccer program, just as impressive as the team's 20-2 record this season.
