Swift Current Indians centre fielder Parris Austin, right-handed closer Joey Evans, and right fielder Brennan Peterson are the Western Major Baseball League club’s three stars for the week ending June 25.

FIRST STAR – Parris Austin (Atlanta, Ga.)
Drafted straight out of high school in 2004 by the New York Mets, Austin made his Indians debut Tuesday in a 9-5 home win over Moose Jaw, going 2-for-5 at the plate with a three-run home run in the fifth inning. He finished the week with three home runs, eight RBI, a .474 batting average, and a 1.000 slugging percentage. Not bad for a self-professed contact hitter.

SECOND STAR – Joey Evans (Texas Wesleyan University/Tyler, Texas)

The right-handed Texan earned his third “three stars” selection of the season thanks to yet another off-the-charts kind of week. Evans made five appearances for the Indians, picking up a win and his league-leading fifth save in the process. He finished the week with 17 strikeouts, two walks, and no earned runs allowed in seven-and-one-third innings.

THIRD STAR – Brennan Peterson (Fort Hays State University/Central Butte, Sask.)

The Indians’ starting right fielder of late raised his batting average almost .100 points by going 9-for-19 at the plate over five games last week. Peterson also drew two walks and scored seven runs as the Indians went 3-2 and took over the Central Division lead. Peterson was previously named the team’s second star on June 12.

The Indians are in Weyburn tonight. They will host Lethbridge tomorrow.
