It was quite a consolation prize for the Swift Current Bantam Indians.

After losing in the AA provincial final recently, the Indians won the Baseball Regina SGI Bantam AAA league with a 7-4 extra inning win over the Regina Buffalos.

"To see these guys rebound after a disappointing loss in the provincial final it's good to see everybody's spirits up after that big win," said Bantam Indians Head Coach Darwin Schultz.

Interview with Darwin Schultz"I think it's a big boost... because us going into Westerns we have a little momentum now to compete and maybe win this thing."

Swift Current is hosting the Western Canadian Championships this year from August 16th to the 18th.

The team will get this week off before starting intense preparations for the tournament.

"Our bats are hot and cold at times," Schultz said. "Our pitching is very steady but we still need work in every aspect of our game."

Schultz is confident they can put up a good fight.

"I think we're going to be right at the top there," he added. "I haven't seen the rest of the teams but just from how my ball club is playing right now it's looking pretty good."

The Bantam Indians will also have 10 players on the Zone Three team at the Bantam Selects Tournament in Saskatoon the week before Westerns.
