Nearly two dozen members of the Swift Current Barracuda Swim Club competed at the 2018 Brainsport Winter Classic and Developmental meet in Saskatoon this past weekend.

The 23 Barracudas swimmers set five club records over the course of the weekend in the Bridge City:

Female 13-14:

100 Backstroke: Elliot Duncalfe (1:18.74)
200 Breaststroke: Elliot Duncalfe (3:30.37)
100 Butterfly: Elliot Duncalfe (1:30.43)

Male 15-16:

1500 Freestyle: Reid Ewert (19:56.82)
100 Butterfly: Quinn Mittelholtz (1:16.42)

Stealing the show for the swim club were Amryne Duncalfe and Lucas Potter, who swam low enough times to qualify for the the elite ManSask AA status.

The 10-year-old Duncalfe dashed her way in the 50-metre freestyle and won first place with the time of 35.43. The time also qualified Amryne to compete at Prairie LC Championships in Regina on March 23-25 and Manitoba-Saskatchewan LC Championships in Saskatoon on July 5-8.

For the 13-year-old Potter, his 50 and 200-metre freestyle times (30.35 and 2:28.72) met AA qualifying standard in his age category. Potter will be competing at Prairie LC Championships in Regina on March 23-25.

Potter also finished first in every event he entered, including 50, 200, 400 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley.

Potter, both Ungers, and Liam Baxter also formed the first-place team in the Boys' 13&O 4x50-metre freestyle relay.

The next meet for the Barracudas will be the Junior Provincial Championships in Moose Jaw which run March 9-11.
