B.C. Quarterback Travis Lulay hoists the Grey Cup After the Lions 34-23 win over Winnipeg.

From 0-5 to Grey Cup Champions, the BC Lions completed the improbable turnaround on Sunday night in front of 54,000 fans at BC Place with a 34-23 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Despite a late push by the East Division Champs from Winnipeg, the 99th Grey Cup was never really close as the CFL’s hottest team rolled up a 14-6 halftime lead and put up 20 second half points for the win.

2011 Most Outstanding Player Travis Lulay completed 21-of-37 passes for 320 yards and two touchdowns.

Lions running back Andrew Harris scored the game’s first touchdown on a 19-yard scamper, and finished with 65 yards to the lead the ground game for the 2011 Champs.

Bombers quarterback Buck Pierce finished the night with two touchdown passes and 250 yards. He also threw one interception.

Winnipeg cut BC’s lead to eight points with just 1:37 to go on a 14-yard touchdown strike from Pierce to Terrence Edwards. Edwards had 83 yards on the day, while Greg Carr caught seven passes for 107 yards and a TD.

The Bombers attempt at an onside kick didn’t travel the full ten-yards and Lions took control. A Paul McCallum 34-yard field goal in the final minute sealed the win.

This is BC head coach Wally Buono record tieing fifth Grey Cup title and the Lions sixth in franchise history.
