Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats Captain Carly Betram is turning into a different kind of cat.

The Maple Creek native is joining the Mount Royal University Cougars program next season.

"She came in as a young kid, a second year bantam," said Wildcats Coach Terry Pavely. "A hard working kid. You've seen her evolve to an elite player. She made Team Saskatchewan this year."

Bertram scored 10 goals and 18 assists in 45 regular season and tournament games. 18 of her points came in 28 regular season Midget AAA games.

"She's developped her hockey sense each and every year she's played (and) just become a smart hockey player. She has... become a strong, tough hockey player to play against. (She is) and elite penalty killer that just does a great job for our program."

Bertram joins a Cougars program that will play in the CIS for the first time next season. The Wildcats were eliminated in the first round of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA league playoffs by Saskatoon.
