Diamond Energy Wildcats forward Carley Bertram's persistence has paid off, as she earned a spot on Saskatchewan's Under 18 female hockey team on her fourth try.

The Maple Creek native says it's a great honour and a payoff for the hard work she's done through the years, and it's pretty special to get to represent her province. Bertram says her age and knowledge helped and all of the hard work she's put in through the Sask Program is a good indicator of why she's ready this time around.

Bertram and the Wildcats play host to Melville at the Fairview Arenas today at 5:15pm and tomorrow at 2:30pm.

Shawn Mullin talked with Carley Bertram about making the U-18 team.

In other local hockey, the K-Motel Midget Hurricanes head to Moose Jaw today to take on the Midget Warriors.

The Kabos Bantam Raiders begin a two game homestand when they face Melville tonight at 7:45pm from the Fairview.

In Junior B, the Cypress Cyclones beat Assiniboia 4-3 in overtime in their home opener last night in Maple Creek.
